History[edit | edit source]
Delivered to McChord on 20 December 1941, 41-2471 was assigned to the 19th Bomb Group at Java on 18 January 1942. Transferred to the 7th Bomb Group's 9th Bomber Squadron, the aircraft crash-landed at Djokjakarta, Java on 8 February 1942, and was abandoned.
Captured and repaired by the Japanese, the aircraft was used for training to develop fighter tactics against USAAF B-17s being used in the Pacific. Eventual fate of this aircraft is unknown, although it is believed to have been scrapped, along with the other two B-17s captured by the Japanese, before the end of the war.
