History[edit | edit source]

Built by North American Aviation, 42-78106 was probably a replacement aircraft from the 460th BG, and did not have the checkerboard tail of the 459th BG when captured.[2]

42-78106 was captured by the Luftwaffe, after landing at Vorarlberg, Germany during a raid against Munich, when the pilot, 1st Lt. Herbert L. Oleson, thought the aircraft was on the Swiss side of the border.[1]
