One of 36 Grumman Martlet aircraft acquired by direct order for British Purchasing Commission, under Grumman Job No 127, AM975 was allocated to 881 Naval Air Squadron RCN aboard HMS Illustrious. On 21 December 1941, the aircraft forced landed half mile south of Carrigans, County Donegal, Eire, during a ferry flight, resulting in the pilot, S/Lt Bruce Nathanial Girdlestone RNZN, being interned.
The final fate of the aircraft is not recorded.
