The Mitsubishi J8M Shūsui (Japanese: 三菱 J8M 秋水, "Autumn Water", a poetic term actually meaning "Sharp Sword", deriving from the sound that a sword makes when it strikes) was a Japanese World War II rocket-powered interceptor aircraft, based closely on the German Messerschmitt Me 163 'Komet'. Built as a joint project for both the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Imperial Japanese Army, it was to be designated J8M by the Japanese Naval Air Force (JNAF) and Ki-200 by the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF). Difficulties in shipping an example to Japan meant that the aircraft eventually had to be reverse-engineered from a flight operations manual and other limited documentation. A single prototype was tested before the end of World War II.
