History[]

Built by Arado at Warnemünde,[2] 145843 was allocated to Ufz. Heinz Ehrhardt, who mistakenly landed in England. [N 1] Piloted by J. A. Storrar (?). Farnborough, on 15 July 1943, this aircraft was soon sporting an 'A' scheme finish of Dark Earth/Dark Green/Yellow, and had RAF serial applied.[N 2]

On 7th February 1944, the aircraft was used by AFDU pilot Leonard Thorne for a 30 minute comparative flight against Mustang III FZ107, followed by similar flights with a Tempest on the 10th, and a Spitfire on the 29th.[3]

Notes[]

  1. 145843 in original colour scheme.[1]

This aircraft had a heavy black distemper coat obscuring all insignia on the fuselage, fin and undersides except for a red 9. This appears to have been applied by brush, not sprayed on.
  2. At some point the spinner appears to have been repainted a light colour.[1]
